Description: Steam engine design built by students under the direction of shop teacher Claude Wingrove. Speculation is that Mr. Wingrove had the castings (cylinders and base) made at the local Cushman Motor Works foundry.
This engine was entered into the International Ford Motor contest and won second place. This is a museum quality item as you can see from the video located at:
https://youtu.be/VqnyyNTuEVY
In fact, it was on display at Lincoln High School for over two decades. However, times change and the item was discarded by the school for more modern exhibits.
Cylinders are oriented at 90 deg. From each other so there is no trouble starting the engine from any position. This engine will operate on very little pressure as long as the volume is adequate. A reversing mechanism allows the engine to operate in either direction. Also equipped with ratcheting lubricator.
This is a steam engine design which runs only on compressed air. It does not have drain cocks for the cylinders or valve chest so it cannot operate on steam. This is good as steam makes a mess of everything anyway. It needs a good home from someone who appreciates fine craftsmanship.
Someone who appreciates fine craftmanship understands that cold metal warm moist air = rust. Translation: it needs to be in a conditioned environment and not a cold garage.
